In doing research in order to give you an honest review of the Denon 3808CI
I found 63 customer reviews. The average customer rating was 4.1 stars
out of a possible 5. This is a strong customer rating that I find
impressive. I don’t care what the product is or how good it is, you
will always have a few people who won’t be satisfied with it.
One word of caution here: before you make a decision you will want to
verify that the A/V receiver you purchase has high-resolution audio
capabilities. You would be surprised at the number of brands of
high-priced equipment that doesn't have it. This A/V receiver is at the
mid-range price point of Denon receivers and definitely delivers when
it comes to high-resolution audio.
One owner had this to say about the Denon 3808CI: “its standard-def
video processing is top notch and the sound quality lives up to Denon
reputation.” Yes, Denon is known for crystal clear, distortion-free
sound. Owners report that even with difficult acoustical conditions
there is still good sound and room balance. This is accomplished with
an updated Audyssey MultEQ XT auto-setup process that’s easy to use
which has helped improve the calibration process.
The design of this piece of equipment is aesthetically pleasing. You
can’t tell from pictures that the faceplate has curved features and
rounded corners that give it a more streamlined look making it more
appealing than some that look like an ordinary box. The LED display is
in the center of the unit and is reported to be readable at a seated
distance of up to 7 feet.
In reading the reviews the #1 complaint, by far, was the design of the
main remote controller and, particularly, the GUI (graphical user
interface) screen. A second, sub-remote is included with the
unit, however, and is reported to be more straightforward and capable
of being used in place of the main remote.
The complaint regarding setup was mentioned so frequently in customer
reviews that it leads me to believe the Denon 3038CI is for people who
are really serious about their home theater and who have experience at
setting one up. In other words, if this is your first AVR purchase and you're not an electronics
geek, this probably is not a good choice for you unless you have an experienced friend who can lend a helping hand.
In summary, the most important things for you to know regarding the Denon 3808CI
are as follows: 1) It delivers high-quality sound at a mid-range price
point 2) It maintains flawless HDMI passthrough 3) There is room for
improvement with the video processing 4) Complex onscreen menus can be
frustrating.
